Aramejsko pismo najvažniji je ogranak sjevernosemitskog pisma. Potječe od drevnoga feničkog pisma (linearno pismo iz 12. stoljeća pr. Kr.) iz kojeg se razvilo grčko pismo, a potom i druga pisma (ćirilično, koptsko i latinično pismo). Od 8. stoljeća pr. Kr. proširilo se s aramejskim jezikom po Mezopotamiji, Siriji i Palestini. Iz aramejskog pisma razvilo se u 2. stoljeću pr. Kr. kvadratno hebrejsko pismo, kojim se Židovi služe i danas, te druga pisma semitskih jezika (nabatejsko, palmirsko).[1]
