La carte de Cabinet des Pays-Bas autrichiens a été levée sous la direction du comte de Ferraris entre 1770 et 1777. Il s'agit d'un document militaire réalisé en trois exemplaires et dont l'échelle originale est 1 / 11 520.
La carte est entièrement manuscrite et procède de levers sur le terrain. L'adjonction de la principauté de Liège fait suite à la décision du 3 mars 1774.
Cette carte, mieux connue sous le nom de carte de Ferraris, constitue incontestablement un des documents cartographiques les plus précieux que nous possédions pour la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle.
