== Usage ==

This template creates an external link to the [http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi JPL Small-Body Database Browser] (SBDB) for a specific [[small Solar System body]] such as an asteroid or a comet.

=== First parameter: identifier ===

The required first parameter is the body's unique identifier. Several identifiers are possible:

; For minor-planets
* <code><nowiki>{{JPL|2436}}</nowiki></code> produces {{JPL|2436}}, for numbered asteroid [[2436 Hatshepsut]]
* <code><nowiki>{{JPL|2018+CN2}}</nowiki></code> produces {{JPL|2018+CN2}}, for provisionally designated asteroid {{mpl|2018 CN|2}} (note the "+"-sign)

; For comets
* <code><nowiki>{{JPL|17P}}</nowiki></code> produces {{JPL|17P}}, for numbered comet [[17P/Holmes]] (note without "/" and name)
* <code><nowiki>{{JPL|P/2011+NO1}}</nowiki></code> produces {{JPL|P/2011+NO1}}, for unnumbered comet [[P/2011 NO1]] (note the "+"-sign)

; Using SPK-ID:
* For special cases, use SBDB's interal reference key (spk-id). For example, comets with fragments (e.g. [[205P/Giacobini]], use <code><nowiki>{{JPL|1000933}}</nowiki></code> ({{JPL|1000933}}) instead of <code><nowiki>{{JPL|205P}}</nowiki></code> ({{JPL|205P}}) A body's spk-id is displayed in the title section at SBDB.

=== Second parameter: label ===

The optional second parameter is used as a replacement for the wikilink text. The default is <code>"JPL"</code> as in all examples above. It may be changed to any given text. For example:
* <code><nowiki>{{JPL|2436|(2436) Hatshepsut}}</nowiki></code> → {{JPL|2436|(2436) Hatshepsut}}
* <code><nowiki>{{JPL|17P|Comet Holmes}}</nowiki></code> → {{JPL|17P|Comet Holmes}}

If the second parameter is named with {{para|cad}}, a link to the object's ''close approach data'' (cad) section is produced instead.<br />Example for the near-Earth object [[99942 Apophis]]:
