== Opis ==&lt;br /&gt;
Na [[Mjesečeva geološka kronologija|mjesečevoj geološkoj vremenskoj skali]], Posidonius je krater [[Gornji imbrij|gornjeg (kasnog) imbrija]].&amp;lt;ref name=&amp;quot;Wilhelms_et_al_1987&amp;quot;/&amp;gt; Rub Posidoniusa je plitak i teško uočljiv, posebno na zapadnom rubu, a unutrašnjost je u prošlosti bila prekrivena tokom lave. Bedemi kratera još se uvijek mogu vidjeti južno i istočno od ruba kratera, a u manjoj mjeri i sjeverno.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Unutar glavnog ruba nalazi se manji, polukružni rub koncentričnog, poplavljenog kratera, pomaknut prema istočnom rubu. Nema središnjeg vrha, ali dno je brdovito i ispresijecano sustavom [[Rille|brazda]] nazvanim &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Rimae Posidonius&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. Dno je također blago izbočeno zbog prošlog izdizanja lave, što je vjerojatno također stvorilo kompleks brazda. Sjeveroistočni rub prekida manji krater Posidonius B. Unutar ruba kratera, malo zapadno od središta, nalazi se još jedan manji krater Posidonius A. Na površini Mora vedrine u blizini Posidoniusa nalazi se značajan sustav [[Naborni greben|nabornih grebena]] koji su paralelni s obližnjom obalom. Oni su označeni kao [[Dorsa Smirnov]]. Na vrhu ovih grebena nalazi se mali krater, Posidonius&amp;amp;nbsp;Y, s promjerom od 2&amp;amp;nbsp;km. Ovaj krater je okružen dijelom materijala visokog [[Albedo|albeda]], njegovim [[Sustav zraka|sustavom zraka]]. Ovaj vrh je prije bio nazvan Posidonius Gamma (γ).&lt;br /&gt;
