Stanje oksidacije kobalta je 3&amp;lt;sup&amp;gt;+&amp;lt;/sup&amp;gt;. Njegova konfiguracija d6 s malim okretajem daje [[kinematika|kinetičku]] stabilnost i [[dijamagnetizam]].
